BLACKSBURG, VA – Pitt Lacrosse comes off their emotional rivalry win over Penn State to face the Virginia Tech Hokies Saturday in Blacksburg. Tomorrow's contest will be the first in conference play for both teams and will now be played indoors, in the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility due to weather. First draw is set for 12 PM.
The ACC foes have faced off four times in three years, including once in the ACC Championships, with the Hokies prevailing on each occasion. Pitt played tough last year at Highmark Stadium, with the visitors winning 13-9 after only leading by one entering the fourth quarter. Jenna Hendrickson recorded a hat trick in the loss and Kaitlyn Giandonato scored one goal and added another assist. Emily Coughlin and Rachel Familetti put together versatile performances with Coughlin securing one ground ball, two caused turnovers and two draw controls and Familetti picking up three ground balls and causing four turnovers.
Pitt enters the first game of conference play after beating intrastate rival Penn State Tuesday in Pittsburgh 12-10. Sydney Naylor and Hendrickson carried the Pitt attack. Naylor registered a career-best six points (4G, 2A) and Hendrickson scored three goals, the eleventh time she has netted at least a hat trick in a game. Jill Fenech and Natalie Voorhees had career performances in the non-conference outing too. Both tied Pitt single game marks: Fenech with 4 CT and Voorhees with 6 GB. After Tuesday's success, Voorhees leads the league in total ground balls and is second with 4.33 per game.
Virginia Tech has won two games in a row, an 11-7 victory over Mercer and a 16-4 rout against Elon. Lauren Render (15G, 2A) and Maura O'Malley (9G, 7A) provide the punch on offense for the Hokies, while Aaliyah Jones has started every game of 2025 in the net and made 36 saves.
Saturday's matchup will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra here and live stats can be followed here. The Panthers continue a road swing portion of their schedule after the contest in Virginia, as they make the cross country trip to Palo Alto to face the Stanford Cardinal on February 27.
