
Panthers Record 12 Personal Bests at BU Valentine Invitational

BOSTON – The men's and women's distance crews combined for 12 personal bests across the mile, 3000-meter and 5000-meter races at the BU Valentine Invitational.
FRIDAY RECAP
The men raced Friday, with Finn Walsh, Luke Simpson and Ethan Fingerhut starting in the mile race. Walsh, who is currently tied for the school record in the event, finished in 4:01.35 and was sixth in his heat. With a time of 4:02.52, Simpson set a new personal best and finished fourth in his heat. With that result, Simpson moved up one spot and into third in program history. Fingerhut also recorded a personal best with a time of 4:08.73 and won his heat.
In the men's 3000-meter race, Quintin Gatons was the top finisher from Pitt, crossing the line in 8:15.42. Damian Frausto was next, finishing eighth in his heat with a pace of 8:28.57. Freshman Cole Casadei recorded a time of 8:37.82.
In the final Friday event, Luke Miller and Thomas McMahon raced in the 5000-meter race. Miller finished in 14:09.83. It was the first collegiate 5000-meter race for McMahon, who finished with a personal best time of 14:19.52, which is good for sixth in the program record books.
SATURDAY RECAP
The women took to the track Saturday afternoon. Once again, the action began with the mile race. All four Pitt women who competed in the mile set new personal records. The Panthers were led by Ella Cook (4:56.79) and Gianna Cagliola (4:59.62), who also ran sub-5-minute miles for the first time of their careers. Freshman Sienna Miller raced to a personal best 5:01.08, as did Anna Cohen, who finished in 5:03.69.
Seniors Ellen Baker and Sarah Hurst guided the Panthers in the 3000-meter race. Baker finished in 9:45.76 with a personal best. Hurst followed with a personal best of her own in 9:55.10. Christina Elliott completed the race in 10:14.15.
Four Panthers competed in the 5000-meter race to close out the meet, with three Panthers notching personal records. Sadie Carey-Tharp led the way in 16:25.60, while also collecting a personal best and the fourth best program time. Winnie Incorvaia was the next Panther to cross the line with a time of 16:36.72, about one second shy of her previous personal best. Camy Kiser had a strong performance of 16:47.46, now #10 in program history. Lastly, freshman Maureen Cheruiyot clocked a time of 17:09.68 in the first 5000-meter race of her young career.
