Pitt Falls to Nevada

HOUSTON – The Pitt softball team fell to Nevada, 8-1, during the final day of the Easton Classic at Cougar Softball Stadium, Sunday morning. The Panthers recorded five hits, including four doubles, but were not able to overcome the Wolf Pack offense.
Kyra Pittman retired the side in each of the first two innings as the Panthers and Wolf Pack were scoreless through the opening two frames. Kylie Griggs led off the top of the third inning with a double off the first pitch and Kaitlyn Brannstrom drove in the first run of the game with a double to left field.
The Wolf Pack took the lead in the bottom of the third inning, scoring three runs on four hits for a 3-1 advantage. Nevada extended its lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run triple to left center field and scored another run on a sac bunt.
The Wolf Pack added one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a groundout to first base and took advantage of a Pitt error in the bottom of the sixth to take an 8-1 lead heading into the final inning.
Hailey McLean earned the win for Nevada while Pittman (2-2) was saddled with the loss.
UP NEXT
The Panthers return to action on Thursday, Feb. 20, at UCF (6 p.m. – ESPN+) to kick off the SpaceU Classic.
