PITTSBURGH – Wrestling's Briar Priest and men's track and field's Jaden Shelton have been named Pitt's PNC Achievers of the Week for their standout performances over the past week.
Priest earned two individual wins as he helped Pitt secure two dual victories over the weekend, beginning with a win during Pitt's ranked road win at No. 14 Lehigh. With the Panthers trailing the Mountain Hawks 15-12 and only two matches remaining, Priest delivered a clutch sudden-victory win over Carter Bailey to tie the dual at 15-15 and set the stage for Kade Brown's match-clinching pin.
On Sunday, Priest added a ranked win over No. 25 Dylan Chappell, to help the Panthers defeat Bucknell at home. Priest trailed 2-0 heading into the third period and battled back with an escape and a late takedown to earn a 4-2 victory.
Shelton had a stellar outing at the YSU Icebreaker, finishing in first place in the 60-meter hurdles and second place in the 60-meter dash. Shelton set a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.68 in the finals. That time currently sits as second best in the country and the third fastest in program history. Shelton also recorded a new personal best in the 60-meter dash, 6.74, to remain the sixth fastest in the event in the history of Pitt men's track and field. Shelton's time is tied for the 16th fastest in the country this year.
