Pitt Comes Up Short at No. 18 Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Pitt (7-8, 0-2 ACC) dropped a road contest at No. 18 Notre Dame (10-2, 2-0 ACC) falling 94-59 inside of Purcell Pavilion, Monday evening.
Mikayla Johnson led the Panthers in scoring for the second consecutive game. The Anchorage, Alaska native finished with 22 points, adding three assists and two rebounds, while Fatima Diakhate posted her sixth double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Theresa Hagans Jr. chipped in 12 points, five assists and four rebounds for Pitt.
Pitt opened the game with strong shooting, connecting on 7-of-16 shots, including 3-of-4 attempts from beyond the arc, but Notre Dame used its transition offense and pressure defense to build a 27-17 advantage after one. The Irish extended the margin in the second quarter, forcing turnovers and converting them into points to take a 51-29 lead into halftime.
The Panthers showed fight coming out of the break, scoring 20 points in the third quarter behind 10 points from Johnson. However the Irish strung together fourth quarter runs of 13-2 and 9-4 to outscore the Panthers 22-10 in the period and come away with the victory.
