Pitt Earns 23-11 Win Over Edinboro

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt wrestling team improved to 7-1 on the season with a 23-11 victory over Edinboro Saturday afternoon at the Fitzgerald Field House.
Pitt won six bouts en route to the victory, including four wins by bonus points. Evan Tallmadge gave the Panthers a 5-3 lead with a technical fall victory at 133 pounds, after Edinboro claimed the opening match. Briar Priest followed with a win at 141 pounds, but the Fighting Scots kept the dual close, winning a close match at 149. but it was the Panthers who held the 8-6 edge early in the dual.
The Panthers held an 8-6 edge after the first four matches and Dylan Evans extended the Panthers' lead with a 16-5 major decision at 157. Pitt dropped a close match at 165, but the Panthers won three of the final four bouts to seal the victory. Luca Augustine increased the lead with a 17-3 major decision at 174 and Mac Stout won by decision in a tough battle at 197. Edinboro was deducted a point after an unsportsmanlike conduct call. Dayton Pitzer capped off the dual with a 12-0 major decision victory.
UP NEXT
The Panthers close out the calendar year at the Midland Championships, Dec. 29-30. Pitt will return to the Field House in the new year to host No. 7 Virginia Tech on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m.
