PITTSBURGH - The Pitt women's swimming and diving team is tied for 24th in the December edition of the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Division I Poll, marking the first CSCAA national ranking in program history.
The Panthers have opened the season strong, posting a 6-1 record in dual meets. Pitt most recently earned wins over Miami (Ohio) and Akron in November and defeated Penn State, 218-77, in October for its first home-pool victory over the Nittany Lions since the 1988-89 season.
Pitt's 400-yard freestyle relay recorded a time of 3:12.88 at the Texas Invitational, a program record that ranks among the top 12 times nationally and automatically qualifies the relay for the NCAA Championships. Prior to 2022, the highest-ranked Pitt relay was 31st nationally in the 200 freestyle relay in 2019.
The Panthers closed last season with momentum, earning their highest finish in program history at the ACC Championships and their best showing at the NCAA Championships in 29 years. Pitt also produced its first female All-American since 1986, as Sophie Yendell placed sixth in the 50 freestyle. It marked the first time the Panthers qualified all five relays for the NCAA Championships.
Pitt returns to action Jan. 10 with a road meet at West Virginia.
