PITTSBURGH – Junior right side hitter Olivia Babcock has been named a 2025 AVCA National Player of the Year finalist, the organization announced Monday. The standout is looking to defend her title after becoming Pitt's first AVCA National Player of the Year last season. With a win, Babcock would become just the fifth player in the award's history to earn the honor in back-to-back seasons.
Babcock was recently named the AVCA East Coast Region Player of the Year for the second straight year and ACC Player of the Year following a sensational junior campaign. She is averaging career highs of 5.11 kills per set and 2.11 digs per set this season. Babcock has also collected a personal-best five ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors and has broken the single-match kills record twice, most recently with 45 kills against North Carolina on Nov. 2. That total is the most by any player this season and the highest since Cincinnati's Jordan Thompson recorded 50 kills against UConn on Nov. 3, 2019.
Most recently, Babcock earned Pittsburgh Regional Most Outstanding Player honors after averaging 6.00 kills per set and 1.71 digs per set while hitting .348 against No. 17 Minnesota and No. 12 Purdue. It marked the third consecutive season she has received the honor.
