Pitt Heads to Michigan, Akron for Weekend Tri-Meets

PITTSBURGH - The Pitt swimming and diving program hits the road this weekend for a pair of tri-meets in Michigan and Ohio. The Panthers will open competition in Ann Arbor on Friday, Nov. 7, facing Michigan and Oakland, before continuing to Akron on Saturday, Nov. 8, to take on Akron and Miami (Ohio).

Last Time Out
Pitt delivered a dominant performance last weekend at Trees Pool, sweeping Penn State in a two-day dual meet. The women's squad downed the Nittany Lions 218–77, earning their first home victory over Penn State since the 1988–89 season. The men's team also prevailed, 182.5–115.
The Panthers captured 21 total event wins, highlighted by three program records and three pool records. With the victory, the Pitt women secured their third consecutive win over Penn State — a program first.
Scouting the Opponents
- Michigan: The Wolverines enter the meet undefeated, with both the men's and women's teams nationally ranked at No. 10.
- Oakland: The Golden Grizzlies opened their 2025–26 campaign with wins over Youngstown State. Most recently, the men's squad earned a victory against Cincinnati.
- Akron: The Zips host Saturday's meet after beginning their season with a win over Eastern Michigan.
- Miami (OH): The RedHawks enter the weekend with one dual win on the year against Southern Illinois. The women's team most recently fell to Bowling Green on the road.
Panthers to Watch
- Julian Koch: Set new school and pool records in the 100 freestyle (41.85) and currently ranks fifth nationally.
- Sydney Gring: Broke the program record in the 200 butterfly (1:56.07) and stands sixth nationally in the 100 fly (51.62).
- Alan Vergine: Established new school and pool records in the 200 fly (1:42.49), ranking 12th nationally.
- Claire Jansen: Ranks 13th nationally in the 100 backstroke (51.92).
- Ethan Radio: Swept the men's diving events against Penn State, winning both the 1-meter (325.35) and 3-meter (379.05).
- Presley Deck: Captured the women's 1-meter title with a score of 291.15.
- Jess Vega: Won the women's 3-meter event with a score of 304.20.

Friday's tri-meet in Ann Arbor will begin at 3 p.m. and stream live on B1G+. Saturday's competition in Akron will start at 1 p.m. and stream live on the Zips Digital Network.
