No. 19 Pitt Falls to No. 3 Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Pitt wrestling team dropped its first dual of the season, falling to No. 3 Iowa, 36-0, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena Friday night. Iowa earned bonus points in five bouts, but the Panthers showed competitiveness in several match ups featuring top 10 opponents.
Pitt opened the night with a strong effort at 125 pounds, as Tyler Chappell battled No. 7 Dean Peterson to sudden victory. A scoreless first period led to a quick escape from Peterson in the second to put him ahead 1-0, and Chappell answered with an escape in the third to force overtime. Peterson secured the winning takedown with just four seconds remaining in the extra period.
At 141, Anthony Santaniello remained within striking distance of No. 8 Nasir Bailey, trailing by just one point heading into the final period before Bailey sealed a 4-2 decision. At 197, No. 4 Mac Stout suffered his first loss of the season in heartbreaking fashion, as No. 8 Massoma Endene scored a takedown as time expired to edge out a 5-4 victory and extend his 68-match winning streak. Heavyweight Dayton Pitzer, ranked No. 14, had a strong defensive effort in a 2-0 loss to No. 6 Ben Keuter to end the dual.
