PITTSBURGH—After earning a hard-fought 30-13 road win at Syracuse, Pitt turns its attention to one of their most anticipated games of the season: a Homecoming showdown against NC State this Saturday.
Head coach Pat Narduzzi addressed the media Monday and praised his team's response to adversity last week.
"Our guys didn't blink," Narduzzi said. "That was the most adversity we've faced all year, and they responded like a team that believes."
The Panthers relied on their defense and special teams to carry the day. Pitt forced three interceptions and held Syracuse to just 212 total yards, while wide receiver Kenny Johnson delivered a game-changing 66-yard punt return touchdown before halftime.
Offensively, Pitt struggled with penalties and pressure, allowing seven sacks. Narduzzi took accountability for the performance, citing crowd noise and execution lapses. "I did a poor job preparing our offense for the noise," he said. "But the way we finished was critical."
Pitt's depth was also on display, with linebackers Nick Lapi and Cameron Lindsey stepping in for injured starters and helping to anchor a strong defensive effort.
Now the Panthers (5-2, 3-1 ACC) return home to face what Narduzzi called "the most talented team we've played to date" in NC State. He highlighted quarterback CJ Bailey, running back Hollywood Smothers, and a disruptive defensive front as key challenges.
"If one side of the ball doesn't show up this week, it won't be a good Saturday," Narduzzi said.
Saturday's game will serve as Pitt's annual Homecoming celebration, with thousands of alumni expected to return to campus. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Acrisure Stadium and will air live on ACC Network.
