PITTSBURGH – Men's Basketball's Jaland Lowe and Wrestling's Grant MacKay were named PNC Achievers of the Week following a pair of strong performances.
Sophomore guard Jaland Lowe averaged 21.5 points per game and 6.5 assist per game to help lead the Panthers to two consecutive conference victories. Lowe scored a game-high 27 points with eight assists against Cal and finishing with 16 points, five assists, four steals, and three rebounds over Stanford.
Against the Golden Bears, he scored 18 of his 27 points in the second half, including 10 in the final five minutes of action, as Pitt overcame a double-digit first half deficit. Lowe became the fourth Panther since the 1999-2000 season to record 25 or more points and eight or more assists in a game. Lowe was perfect from the free-throw line against the Cardinal, going 4-of-4, and has now made 12 consecutive free throws and tied his career-high in steals.
Grant MacKay contributed to the Panthers' dominating performance over Pitt Johnstown Friday evening with a 15-0 tech fall win in three minutes at 165. He extended the Pitt lead on the way to a 32-8 win over Division II foe Pitt-Johnstown. MacKay moved to 20-9 in his career and secured his first tech fall win as a Panther.
