
Panthers Host Pitt-Johnstown in Dual Meet Friday

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Wrestling team, ranked No. 18 in the NWCA Coaches Poll and coming off a tie for fourth finish at the Midland Championships, hosts Pitt-Johnstown in a dual meet Friday evening at Fitzgerald Field House. The Mountain Cats enter the meet ranked No. 20 in the NCAA Division II rankings.
Pitt is 4-2 in dual meets this season with four of its six matches coming against nationally ranked opponents. Pitt-Johnstown enters the match with a 2-1 record.
Friday's dual meet will begin at 6 p.m.
NOTABLES
- Pitt delivered an outstanding showing at the 2024 Midlands Championships with three Panthers earning top three finishes and a tie for fourth-place team finish. Reece Heller (184) and Mac Stout (197) took home titles with dominating performances throughout the two days, while Kade Brown delivered an impressive performance with a third-place finish at 149.
- The Panthers had six wrestlers reach the podium with a pair of champions, a third-place finish, fifth-place finish, and two sixth-place finishes.
- Pitt finished tied for fourth in the team standings with 95.5 points despite losing a pair of key contributors to injury on the second day of competition.
- Pitt has eight individual wrestlers ranked in the InterMat rankings in their respective weight classes and nine individual wrestlers ranked in the FloWrestling rankings.
- Mac Stout has won nine consecutive matches to climb to No. 12 in the InterMat rankings, while Reece Heller is Pitt's top-ranked wrestler in the FloWrestling rankings at No. 11.
- Mac Stout leads the Panthers with 12 wins with five of those coming by major decision or tech fall.
- Friday dual could feature ranked matches at 125, 197, and 285. No. 12 Mac Stout is slated to face Division II No. 8 Dakoda Rodgers.
