
Pitt Women's Basketball Releases 2024-25 Schedule

PITTSBURGH – Entering year two of the head coach Tory Verdi era, and in conjunction with the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) releasing the league's conference schedule, the Pitt women's basketball program officially unveiled its 2024-25 slate Tuesday evening.
Highlighted by a trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands for the Paradise Island Jam Tournament, the Panthers will play a total of 31 regular-season games this season, including 16 at the Petersen Events Center.
"We're thrilled for another challenging slate with this combination of ACC and non-conference opponents," said Verdi. "Overall, our team has taken tremendous strides this off-season. Our returning corps has continued to improve entering year two in our system. Meanwhile, our newcomers have acclimated themselves nicely since arriving on campus. We're excited to get started, and we hope our supporters will continue to back us."
The Schedule
Pitt will officially open the 2024 campaign against Canisius on Nov. 5, before hosting Bucknell on Nov. 9. The Panthers then travel for a two-game road swing at West Virginia (Nov. 12) and Binghamton (Nov. 17).
Three days later, Pitt returns home for matchups against Delaware State (Nov. 20) and Robert Morris (Nov. 23) prior to traveling to the U.S. Virgin Islands (Nov. 28-30) to face Kansas, Auburn and Northern Iowa in the Paradise Island Jam Tournament.
Pitt will then return to the Petersen Events Center for four-consecutive home games against Duquesne (Dec. 4), St. Peters (Dec. 8), Miami (Dec. 15) and New Hampshire (Dec. 19). Of note, the Dec. 15 showdown between the Panthers and Hurricanes will mark the ACC opener for both squads.
Following a trip to Utah Tech (Dec. 21), and an eight-day hiatus, Pitt will resume ACC play at Georgia Tech on Dec. 29.
The Panthers travel to Duke (Jan. 5), before hosting Louisville (Jan. 9) and SMU (Jan. 12). Pitt then returns to the Tar Heel state, facing NC State on Jan. 16 prior to consecutive home games against North Carolina (Jan. 19) and Virginia Tech (Jan. 23).
A week later, Pitt travels to face first-year ACC members, Stanford (Jan. 30) and Cal (Feb. 2).
After hosting Boston College (Feb. 6), Pitt hits the road to face SMU (Feb. 9), before back-to-back home games against Notre Dame (Feb. 13) and Virginia (Feb. 16).
The Panthers will play three of their final four regular-season games on the road, traveling to Florida State (Feb. 20), followed by a home game against Clemson (Feb. 23) and consecutive road games at Syracuse (Feb. 27) and Wake Forest (March 2).

Pitt's 2024-25 roster features six returners, five transfers and two freshmen.

Returning Production
Pitt returns three of its top-five scorers from a season ago, including Aislin Malcolm – who led the team in three-point percentage (31.6 percent). Additionally, Pitt returns Marley Washenitz, the lone Panther to register 100+ assists last year.
Returning guards Bella Perkins and Aaryn Battle will also look to make an impact this season. Of note, Perkins led the team in three-pointers with 52.

Scouting the Opposition
Canisius
In 2023-2024, the Canisius women's basketball team went 17-14, the program's most wins since the 2008-2009 season. The Golden Griffins made their first MAAC semifinal appearance since 2009 and lost to would-be champion Fairfield.
Bucknell
Bucknell women's basketball lost in the Patriot's League quarterfinals to end their 2023-2024 season. The Bison return their second-leading scorer, Ashley Sofilkanich, a sophomore forward who averaged 12.5 points per game and a team-high 6.3 rebounds per game last season.
West Virginia
West Virginia women's basketball earned the program's 14th NCAA tournament berth since 1988 last season as an eight seed. The Mountaineers lost to championship-bound Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes in the second round, 64-54.
Binghamton
Binghamton went 14-17 last season and 8-8 in the Atlantic East Conference. The Bearcats have posted one America East Player of the Year, nine all-conference selections, seven all-defensive picks and four all-rookie choices in the past six seasons.
Delaware State
Delaware State women's basketball lost in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference quarterfinals to North Carolina Central. The Hornets lost their five leading scorers from last season, who combined to average 50.3 points per game.
Robert Morris
Robert Morris went 6-24 last season, ending their campaign on an 18-game losing streak. The Colonials lost to Detroit Mercy in the first round of the Barbasol Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship, 59-48.
Kansas
The Kansas Jayhawks women's basketball team lost in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals to Texas but earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament as an eight seed. They defeated nine-seed Michigan en route to the Round of 32, where they lost to top-seeded USC. The Jayhawks center, Taiyanna Jackson, was selected to the Connecticut Sun in the 2024 WNBADraft.
Auburn
Last season, the Auburn Tigers earned their fourth NCAA Tournament bid since 2016 and lost in a First Four matchupagainst Arizona. The Tigers finished seventh in the SEC and went 8-8 in conference play.
Northern Iowa
Northern Iowa went 14-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference last season, finishing fourth in conference standings. The Panthers have gone .500 or better in 15 of the past 17 years and earned three NCAA tournament bids, most recently in 2017.
Duquesne
Duquesne women's basketball went 21-13 last season, earning a bid to the Women's National Invitation Tournament. The Dukes finished fifth in the Atlantic 10 conference with a 13-5 record. They return senior Megan McConnell, who averaged a team-high 13.1 points per game, a team-high 8.6 rebounds per game and a team-high 4.6 assists per game.
St. Peter's
St. Peter's women's basketball lost in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship opening round to Quinnipiacto end their 2023-2024 season. The Peacocks have earned seven NCAA Tournament bids, most recently in 2002.
Miami
Miami went 19-12 last season, finishing ninth in the ACC with an 8-10 conference record. The U returns both Cavindertwins for their graduate student seasons.
New Hampshire
The New Hampshire women's basketball team went 9-20 last season, finishing fourth in the America East Conference. The program most recently made the Women's National Invitation Tournament in the 2016-2017 season.
Utah Tech
Utah Tech went 18-14 last season, finishing third in the Western Athletic Conference standings with a 12-8 conference record. The 18 wins are the second-most program wins in the past four seasons for the Trailblazers (19 in the 2022-2023 season).
Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech women's basketball went 17-16 overall and 7-11 in ACC play last season. The Yellow Jackets return leading scorer Tonie Morgan, who averaged 15.6 points per game and a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game.
Duke
The Duke women's basketball team earned their 26th NCAA Tournament bid last season, making it to the Sweet Sixteen as a seven seed. Duke is 68-33 since Kara Lawson was hired as head coach in 2020.
Louisville
The Louisville women's basketball team was ranked as high as 13th in the AP poll last season. The Cardinals went 24-10 overall and 12-6 in the ACC, earning an NCAA Tournament bid as a six seed.
SMU
SMU women's basketball went 14-16 overall and 8-10 in their final season in the American Conference. The Mustangs did not return their top three leading scorers from last season, who combined to average 39.9 points per game.
NC State
North Carolina State women's basketball went to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history. The Wolfpack finished second in the ACC with a 13-5 record in conference play.
North Carolina
The North Carolina women's basketball team earned the program's 31st NCAA Tournament bid as an eight seed last season. The Tar Heels lost in the Second Round to the undefeated, would-be national champions South Carolina.
Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech finished first in the ACC standings last season with a 14-4 conference record. The Hokies lost three-time ACC Player of the Year Elizabeth Kitley to graduation, who ranks first in program history in points scored and has the most all-time ACC double-doubles.
Stanford
Stanford women's basketball forward Cameron Brink was drafted 2nd overall to the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2024 WNBA draft. The team went 30-6 in its final season in the Pac-12 and lost to NC State in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.
Cal
The Cal women's basketball program has earned an NCAA Tournament bid 14 times, going as far as the Final Four in 2013. In the Golden Bear's final season in the Pac-12, they went 19-15 overall and 7-11 in conference play.
Boston College
Boston College went 5-13 in ACC play last season and 14-19 overall. The Eagles return junior forward Teya Sidberry, who averaged a team-high 13.6 points per game, a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game, and had a team-high 22 blocks.
Notre Dame
Notre Dame earned an NCAA Tournament bid as a two seed last season after winning the ACC Tournament. The Fighting Irish return sophomore guard Hannah Hidalgo, who was the 2024 ACC Tournament MVP, the 2024 ACC Rookie of the Year, the 2024 ACC Defensive Player of the Year and was selected to the AP All-America First Team.
Virginia
The Virginia women's basketball team went 16-16 last season and 7-11 in ACC play.
Florida State
The Florida State women's basketball team finished sixth in the ACC standings last season with a 12-6 conference record. The Seminoles earned seven home ACC wins last season, tied for the third most in the conference.
Clemson
Clemson women's basketball went 12-19 last season and 5-13 in ACC play. The Tigers have earned 16 NCAA Tournament appearances, most recently in 2019, when they reached the second round.
Syracuse
Syracuse women's basketball finished third in the ACC last season with a 13-5 conference record. They lost Dyaisha Fair, who averaged a team-high 22.3 points, to the WNBA Draft.
Wake Forest
Wake Forest women's basketball went 7-25 last season and 2-16 in games in the ACC in Megan Gebbia's second season as head coach. The Demon Deacons have made the NCAA Tournament twice in program history, most recently as a nine seed in 2021.
