
No. 2 Pitt Extends Winning Streak; Knocks Off Cleveland State, 4-0

CLEVELAND – Senior forward Luis Sahmkow recorded his second-consecutive brace Tuesday evening, leading the No. 2-ranked Pitt men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Cleveland State at Krenzler Field in Cleveland.
Tuesday's result marked Pitt's (6-1-0, 2-0-0 ACC) third-consecutive victory and its sixth win of the 2024 campaign. Of note, the Panthers have already matched last season's win total through only seven matches.
Pitt jumped out to an early lead as junior defender Casper Svendby sent a cross to Sahmkow – who slotted it home to open the scoring. The Panthers then remained on the attack offensively, resulting in a 31st minute strike from freshman forward Lasse Dahl. Of note, Dahl's tally marked the first of his career as he currently ranks fourth on the team in points with six.
After entering the halftime break with a 2-0 lead, Pitt began to control possession in the second frame.
In the 53rd minute, sophomore forward Albert Thorsen netted his fourth goal of the season, giving the Panthers a 3-0 advantage. Just over six minutes later, Sahmkow pressured Cleveland State's keeper into a bad clearance, resulting in an easy goal.
Pitt controlled the remainder of the contest, coasting to the 4-0 victory and improving to 6-1 on the season.
