PITTSBURGH – Four-time All-American and former U.S. National Team member Kaersten Meitz has been named an assistant coach for the Pitt men's and women's swimming and diving program, as announced by head coach Chase Kreitler.
Meitz joins the Pittsburgh staff after spending last season as an assistant coach at Washington State.
"We are incredibly excited to add Kaersten Meitz to our coaching staff," said Kreitler. "She brings a wealth of knowledge in the sport as a former professional athlete, World University Games Gold Medalist and NCAA All-American. Most importantly, her ability to connect and inspire student-athletes is exceptional. She did a great job in her first coaching position last year at Washington State. Kaersten will immediately impact the performance of our student-athletes and will also be a fantastic recruiter for us."
Meitz was a four-year NCAA qualifier at Purdue (2014-2018) where she competed primarily in the freestyle distance events. The Waukesha, Wisconsin, native also swam for the United States National Team (2017-2019) and won a pair of gold medals at the 2019 World University Games in the 400 Free and the 200 Free Relay. Meitz has also competed at the U.S. Olympic trials twice, where she was a finalist.
Meitz closed out her career with the Boilermakers by establishing program records in the 500 Free (4:35.82), 1000 Free (9:38.46) and 1650 Free (15.54.41), eclipsing her own marks in the 500 and 1000 again. She led the team with 18 individual event victories and contributed to six relay wins.
"I am extremely excited and grateful to be joining the Pitt staff as an assistant coach," said Meitz. "I'm looking forward to helping continue the momentum of the program that Chase, and the rest of the staff have started and help the student-athletes reach their goals in both the classroom and the pool. Thank you to Chase and the Pitt staff for giving me the opportunity to be a part of something truly special. Ready to get to work! H2P!"
