PITTSBURGH – The Panthers have 16 student-athletes who are playing in collegiate summer ball leagues this summer. Five Panthers will be starting the off in the Cape Cod Baseball League, arguably the most prestigious of all collegiate summer ball leagues.
For the second consecutive year, Pitt is sending at least five Panthers to compete in the Cape Cod League this summer. Phil Fox, Luke Cantwell, Ryan Andrade, Ryan Reed and Jayden Melendez will all be representing the Panthers in one of the nation's most prominent collegiate summer leagues. First baseman Luke Cantwell and All-ACC second team relief pitcher Phil Fox start their summer season on the Chatham Anglers. Two thirds of Pitt's weekend battery will be on the YD Red Sox as right-hander Ryan Andrade, left-hander Ryan Reed and catcher Jayden Melendez will remain teammates for the summer.
The Panthers will have four representatives playing in the Appalachian League this year. Relief pitchers Kyle Demi and Matt Porter are playing for the Pulaski River Turtles while Gavin Chillot and Sebastian Pisacreta, who are coming off of impressive freshman campaigns, will both be playing for the Kingsport Axmen.
Pitt will also have four players in the Valley League. Infielder Anthony LaSala will play for the Strasburg Express for the second-straight year, this time being joined by right-handed pitcher Will Hummel, while freshmen Ryan Zuckerman and Kayden Faulcon will be teammates on the Woodstock Riverbandits.
Aidan Coleman is the lone representative in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL). The true freshman made 13 appearances and 10 starts last season and will pitch for the Newport Gulls this summer.
Jonah St. Antoine is set to compete in the Northwoods League this summer where he will play for the Wausau Woodchucks.
Florida native, Keeton Burroughs, will be playing his summer ball at home in the Florida Collegiate Summer League for the Leesburg Lighting who are the defending league champions.
