Panthers Fall to NC State in Season Finale, 4-2

RALEIGH, N.C. – Pitt dropped the series finale to NC State, 4-2, Saturday afternoon at Dail Softball Stadium. The Panthers and Wolfpack were both powered by home runs with two home runs combining to score four of the six runs.
The Panthers end the 2024 season with a 17-32 overall record and a 6-18 record in ACC play.
The Panthers and Wolfpack were in a pitcher's duel to begin the season finale as the two teams combined for three hits in the first three innings. Adriana Romano held the Wolfpack scoreless with just two hits in 3.2 innings pitched. Romano and Olivia Stefanoni combined to retire the leadoff batter in five straight innings. Romano retired each leadoff batter in the first four innings and Olivia Stefanoni retired the first batter in the bottom of the fifth.
The Wolfpack broke the scoreless tie with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run home run to left field. KK Esparza answered for the Panthers in the top of the fifth, hitting a two-run home run to make the score 2-2.
NC State took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning from Michele Tarpey triple down the left field line. Kaylee Lambrecht added the insurance run in the next at-bat with a single up the middle.
