Eric Cannon Receives Induction into Delaware Sports Museum & Hall of Fame

WILMINGTON, Del. – Track and field "Forever Panther" and star hurdler, Eric Cannon was inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum & Hall of Fame yesterday evening, May 23.
Cannon, the most accomplished hurdler in Delaware state history and a six-time All-American, two-time Big East champion and two-time IC4A Champion while at Pitt, was one of nine inductees who were honored with a banquet at the Chase Center in Wilmington.
Cannon grew up in Wilmington, Delware and graduated from Delcastle Technical High School. While at Delcastle, Cannon won the state championship in the 110-meter hurdles three times, the 55-meter hurdles twice, as well as the 50-yard dash twice and the 100 meters. At the National Scholastic Indoor Championships, Cannon was crowned the 55-meter hurdles champion and set a Delaware record that lasted for 35 years.
Cannon received a full scholarship to Pitt where he holds four school records to this day. In 1989 he broke Olympic gold medalist Roger Kingdom's record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.21. Cannon is tied with Kingdom for the 50-yard hurdles record with a pace of 6.24. He is also a member of two school record relay teams, the sprint hurdle relay (56.10) and the sprint medley relay (3:18.41). In 1989, Cannon won the 110-meter hurdles at Penn Relays, led Pitt to their first Big East title, placing first in two events, and concluded his career with second place in the 110-meter hurdles at NCAA Championships.
This is Cannon's second induction. In 2000, Cannon was inducted into the Delaware Track and Field Hall of Fame.
