Panthers Shutout No. 8 Seminoles in Friday’s Series Opener

PITTSBURGH – The Panthers shutout the No. 8 Seminoles, 1-0, in Friday's series opener. Ryan Andrade threw seven shutout innings before Phil Fox came in and earned a two-inning save.
Friday's victory was Pitt's fourth win over a top-15 ranked team this season and third over a top-10 team. The Panthers have now beaten the Seminoles in their last two games.
In a true pitcher's duel, Ryan Andrade and Jamie Arnold went toe-to-toe on the rubber. Andrade and the Panthers came out top with help from Luke Cantwell who hit a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth inning for the game's only run.
Pitt starting pitcher Ryan Andrade threw seven shutout innings for the second straight outing and earned his second win of the year. Andrade allowed just three hits and three walks over seven innings while striking out eight batters. He has surrendered just one run while striking out 15 in his last two starts (15.1 IP).
Phil Fox earned his seventh save of the season when he entered in the eighth inning, striking out four over his two innings.
Luke Cantwell went 2-3 and scored the game's only run on an opposite field solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Cantwell has recorded two or more hits in four of Pitt's last six games. Tyler Bishcke tried to get things going in the fifth inning when he laid down the bunt single to the pitcher for Pitt's only other hit of the game.
Cantwell's 10th home run of the season broke the pitcher's duel in the bottom of the sixth inning and was the only run the Panthers needed tonight.
Ryan Andrade escaped a jam in the top of the seventh inning and would hand the ball over to Pitt's closer, Phil Fox, to start the top of the eighth.
Fox earned his seventh save of the season, striking out four Seminoles over his two innings.
