Coach Allard Reaches 700 Career Win Milestone as Pitt Defeats Akron, 10-2

AKRON, Ohio – Head Coach Jenny Allard reached 700 career wins as Pitt defeated Akron, 10-2, Tuesday evening at the Lee R. Jackson Field. Coach Allard is one on 43 active division I head softball coaches to reach the 700-career win milestone.
The Panthers scored eight runs on 16 hits as four Panthers recorded multi-hit efforts. Kylie Griggs (3-for-3), Amanda "Tuta" Ramirez (3-for-4, 3 RBI), Kat Rodriguez (3-for-4), and Cami Compson (2-for-4) led the Panthers' lineup that saw seven of nine starters record a hit.
Kendall Brown and Kyra Pittman anchored the Panthers in the circle. Brown got the start and allowed two runs (one unearned), on three hits with a walk and a strikeout. Pittman earned the win after entering the game in the fourth inning and tossing 4.0 shutout innings with one hit and two strikeouts. Brown and Pittman combined to allow just six runners on base.
The Panthers struck first after Griggs hit a leadoff single to left field and Rodriguez hit an RBI single to left center to give Pitt a 1-0 lead. The Zips answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning to even the score. Akron took the lead in the bottom of the third with another RBI single.
The Panther bats came alive in the top of the fourth, hitting two home runs to take a 4-2 lead. Amanda "Tuta" Ramirez tied the game with a solo home run followed by a Jordan George single to center field. Desirae Martinez hit a two-run home run, giving the Panthers the lead.
Pitt extended their lead, 7-2, after adding three more runs in the fifth inning. The Panthers started by loading the bases after a Griggs single, Macy Hamilton reached on a fielder's choice, and a Rodriguez bunt single. Compson just missed a grand slam, hitting a deep single off the top of the right center wall to extend the Panthers to a 5-2 lead. The Panthers added two more runs off a Ramirez single and an error from the catcher.
Alena Ball hit a two-out single and stole second to get in scoring position in the top of the sixth. Griggs plated another run with a double to left center field to put the Panthers' up 8-2. The Panthers picked up four more hits in the final inning, including a two-run double from Rachael Fuerst to reach the 10-2 final score.
