CLEMSON, SC – Less than 72 hours after their last meeting, Pitt Lacrosse will face Clemson again. Sunday's matchup marks the first round of the 2024 ACC Championship, and will be contested in South Carolina rather than the friendly confines of Highmark Stadium. The weekend tilt is scheduled to begin at 2 PM.
Thursday's game was close the entire 60+ minutes. The teams were back and forth, with neither holding a lead of more than two goals. Regulation wasn't enough to settle the score, as the game ended in the second period of overtime number one when the Tigers netted the game winner.
Goalie Audrey Moran continued her solid play, this time with 15 saves and a .556 save percentage. This was her seventh time in 2024 with at least 10 saves. Senior defender Abby Thorne played tough for the Panther defense and recorded five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Elsewhere, freshman Megan Sheridan continued her impressive freshman campaign with one draw control and two caused turnovers.
Jenna Hendrickson recorded three points last time out, bringing her season total to 50 (37G, 13A). She's only the second Panther to get to the 50-point mark, joining five-time All-American Paige Petty in the record book. Sydney Naylor and Ava Washington have been strong offensively in 2024 as well, with 43 and 37 points respectively.
Clemson now sits at 10-6 and enters the postseason as the number seven seed (Pitt is 10). Claire Bockstie paces the Tiger attack, with 39 goals and 17 assists to this point. Ella Little proved to be tough on the draw and has 55 draw controls in 2024 to her name. Emily Lamparter has made 131 saves in the net to anchor the Clemson defense.
The winner of Sunday's first round game will face the number two seed, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The remaining rounds of the championship will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina. Follow all the Pitt Lacrosse action on social media: @Pitt_WLAX.
