Pitt Places Five Student-Athletes On Women’s Basketball All-ACC Academic Team

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women's basketball program placed five student-athletes on the 2023-24 All-ACC Academic Team, as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.
Two Panthers, Gabby Hutcherson and Marley Washenitz, earned All-ACC Academic Team honors for the second straight season while three other Panthers, Aislin Malcolm, Bella Perkins and Jasmine Timmerson, earned the recognition for the first time in their Pitt careers.
Pitt has now placed a total of 28 student-athletes on the All-ACC Academic Team since joining the conference in 2013-14.
Hutcherson, a communication major, capped her senior season appearing in 26 games while making seven starts. She averaged 3.5 points and 2.6 rebounds while shooting 30.8% from behind the arc on the season. Posted the best game of her season against Boston College as she netted 11 points, five rebounds and two steals in 23 minutes on Senior Night at the Pete.
Washenitz, a business major, made significant strides during her sophomore campaign as she earned a career-high 30 starts at point guard for the Panthers. She capped her second season averaging a career-high 4.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while grabbing a career-best 41 steals in 27.8 minutes per contest. She led the Panthers in assists 17 times while recording at least five assists in a career-high nine games. The talented guard posted her first career double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in a win over Lehigh in December.
Malcolm, a finance major, enjoyed the best season of her career this past season as she averaged career-highs in nearly every statistical category. She capped her second season ranking second on the squad in scoring (9.3 ppg) while adding in 2.2 assists and 1.6 rebounds per game while connecting on a career-high 42 three-pointers. The talented scorer posted a career-high 14 games scoring in double figures while connecting on multiple three-pointers in a career-best 11 games. She had the best game of her career in the win over Northern Kentucky this season as she finished with a career-high 21 points, seven assists and two rebounds while going 8-for-11 from the floor and 5-for-6 from behind the arc.
Perkins, a media and professional communications major, enjoyed a strong first campaign in the blue and gold as she averaged career-highs in scoring (7.7 ppg), rebounding (1.9 rpg) and assists (1.3 apg) while connecting on a team and career-high 52 three-pointers. The sharpshooter posted a career-high 12 games scoring in double digits while connecting on multiple triples in 17 games. The best game of her collegiate career came in the win over Lehigh as she netted a career-high 22 points, five assists, three steals and three rebounds while going 7-for-15 from the floor and 4-for-7 from deep.
Timmerson, an undeclared major, capped her freshman campaign appearing in 24 games while earning eight starts at point guard for the Panthers. She posted season averages of 15.4 minutes, 1.5 points and 1.6 assists during her first season. She enjoyed the best game of her career at Boston College as she netted a career-best eight points, seven assists and three rebounds in 30 minutes of work.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
