Pitt Drops Senior Day Game To Boston College Sunday

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (8-23, 2-16 ACC) dropped their regular season finale on Sunday afternoon inside the Petersen Events Center to the Boston College Eagles by the score of 84-58.
Prior to the game on Sunday, Pitt honored four seniors as part of their Senior Day celebration. Liatu King, Gabby Hutcherson, Jala Jordan and Rapuluchi Ayodele each were honored pregame in their final home game at the Pete. King, Hutcherson and Ayodele each have another year of eligibility remaining next season.
King led Pitt in scoring once again Sunday as she recorded her 18th double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds in just 23 minutes of work thanks to foul trouble throughout the contest. Aislin Malcolm finished her afternoon with 12 points while Hutcherson had a season-high 11 points and five rebounds off the bench in the loss for Pitt.
For the game, Pitt shot 41.8% from the floor while the Eagles finished the win shooting 50% from the floor. The Panthers held the 36-32 lead in rebounds but the Eagles turned 28 Pitt turnovers into 30 points in the road win.
How It Happened
The Panthers gained the early lead thanks to a layup by King and a jumper in the paint by Aaryn Battle but the Eagles came right back with five straight to take the 10-6 lead three minutes in. King made back-to-back buckets and Gabby Hutcherson drained a triple to give Pitt the 13-12 lead at the media timeout. Out of the timeout, the Eagles outscored Pitt 10-0 to take the 22-13 lead into the second quarter.
Boston College opened the second quarter on a 10-4 run to take the 15-point lead, 32-17, and force Pitt into a timeout. Out of the timeout, Bella Perkins made a pair of triples and Malcolm scored five points to send the game to halftime with Pitt trailing 36-30.
The Eagles blew the game open in the third quarter as they shot 75% (12-for-16) from the floor and outscored the Panthers 33-16. King was able to score six points in the quarter as the Panthers entered the fourth trailing 69-46.
Boston College was able to win the scoring battle in the fourth quarter 15-12 as they earned the road victory on Sunday.
Game Notes
- King finished with a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds in the loss, marking her 18th double-double of the season
- The 18 double-doubles are the most by a Pitt player in over 30 seasons
- She has now scored in double figures in 29 of 31 games
- Malcolm finished her afternoon with 12 points, her 13th game this season scoring in double figures
- Hutcherson finished her senior day game with a season-high 11 points, five rebounds and two steals off the bench. The game marked her second in double figures this season and the eighth of her career
- Perkins came off the bench and netted 10 points, four rebounds and three assists in 32 minutes of work. It marked her 11th game this season scoring in double figures
