Pitt Drops Series Opener to No. 18 Florida State

PITTSBURGH – The Panthers dropped the series opener to No. 18 Florida State, 13-4, after an hour weather delay due to cold temperatures at Vartabedian Field late Saturday afternoon.
Kat Rodriguez led the Panthers by going 2-for-2 with a run scored and drew a walk. Macy Hamilton went 1-for-1 with a bases-clearing double and had an incredible sliding catch in left field. Ana Hernandez went 1-for-2 to increase her hitting streak to three games.
The Panthers got on base early after Rodriguez singled up the middle and advanced to second base on a Macy Hamilton sac bunt. Kylie Griggs drew a walk and Cami Compson fouled out the right field to put the runners at the corners.
Pitt scored all four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Amanda "Tuta" Ramirez drew a walk and Desirae Martinez singled through the left side to put the runners at the corners. The Panthers got their first run on the board from a Hernandez sac bunt. Ahmari Braden walked and Rodriguez hit a single to set up the bases-clearing double her Hamilton.
Florida State scored four runs in the first inning from an RBI single and a Jahni Kerr three-run homer. The Seminoles score five runs in the second off two home runs and added four more in the third inning.
Kyra Pittman entered the circle in the third inning and held the Seminoles to one run on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk in 3.0 innings of work.
