PITTSBURGH – Guards Ishmael Leggett and Carlton Carrington were named to the ACC All-Tournament team after leading the Panthers to a semifinal appearance and a near upset of top-seeded North Carolina at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
Carrington averaged 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists, while going 12-of-25 (.480) from the field, including 5-of-11 from three-point range. He scored a team-high 24 points to go along with five rebounds, and three assists in the semifinals against No. 4 North Carolina. Carrington played the entire 40 minutes against the Tar Heels going 9-of-17 from the field and 4-of-8 from three-point range.
Leggett delivered a memorable performance in front of a hometown crowd in the ACC Quarterfinal win over Wake Forest. He scored a season-high 30 points on 11-of-18 shooting, while adding eight rebounds, and five steals. He scored 19 of his 30 points in the second half with his 30 points ranking as second most by a Panther in the ACC Tournament. Leggett also posted the first 30+ point game off the bench by any player in the ACC Tournament since 2017. He averaged 18.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while going 13-of-25 (.520) from the field.
Carrington and Leggett join Talib Zanna (2014) and Lamar Patterson (2014) as Pitt players to earn ACC All-Tournament team accolades.
The Panthers enter Selection Sunday on the bubble and will find out their postseason fate later tonight. Pitt has a strong case to make the NCAA Tournament with a 22-11 record (12-8 ACC) and fourth place finish in the ACC, but several upsets Saturday around the country have stolen bids
Pitt was solid computer numbers ranking No. 38 in Torvik and No. 40 in NET and KenPom. The Panthers are 9-9 in Quad 1 and Quad 2 games, including Quad 1 wins at Duke and Virginia. Pitt has also been one of the best Power Conference teams playing away from home this season ranking among the leaders in road wins (7) and road/neutral game win percentage (.600).
