Goncharov, Matteazzi Punch Tickets to Men’s NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Pittsburgh men's swimming team saw two Panthers selected to compete at the 2024 Men's NCAA Championships on March 27-30 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, as announced by the NCAA Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore Stepan Goncharov and senior Max Matteazzi punched their tickets after putting up stellar performances at the 2024 ACC Championships.
Goncharov was selected to compete in the 100 back and was invited to the 50 and 100 free competitions. This will be Goncharov's second appearance at the NCAA Championships after competing in the 400 free relay last year as a freshman. The Tosno, Russia native crushed the 100 back school record at ACC Championships – placing fourth overall with his time of 45.44.
Matteazzi put his name on the Psych Sheet for the 400 IM after securing the 25th time in the country (3:42.38). He was also invited to compete in the 200 IM and 200 breast. At the 2024 ACC Championships, the Vincenza, Italy native secured the silver medal in the 400 IM after finishing with his time of 3:42.38.
On the diving side, three Panthers have already punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships. Cameron Cash, Dylan Reed and Daley Fraser have each secured a spot on the 1- and 3-meter competitions. The final qualifications for the men's platform will be confirmed at the completion of the 2024 NCAA Diving Zone Championships, this afternoon.
