
Cantwell Named Preseason Top 50 First Baseman

PITTSBURGH - Luke Cantwell has been named a "Preseason Top 50 First Baseman" by D1Baseball.com. Cantwell was ranked as the No. 30 first baseman in their countdown.
Cantwell comes to Pitt after spending the first two years of his collegiate career at Fairleigh Dickinson University. The Warrington, PA native was a First-Team All-NEC selection at FDU as a sophomore last season, hitting .331 with 51 runs batted in, 50 hits, 14 home runs, 13 doubles, six stolen bases and a .709 slugging percentage. Over his two years with the Knights, Cantwell hit .300 while collecting 77 hits, 71 runs batted in, 20 home runs, 17 doubles and slugging .607.
He attended Archbishop Wood High School, located just north of Philadelphia, PA, where he was the first ever two-year baseball captain in school history. Cantwell hit .404 his senior year, with 16 runs batted in and five doubles, and was a First-Team All-Catholic League selection.
