
Panthers Prepped to Host UNC at ACC Home Opener

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (2-4-0, 0-2-0 ACC) is prepped and ready to host the North Carolina Tarheels (2-6-0, 0-2-0 ACC) on Friday, Feb. 2 for their ACC Home Opening meet. This dual meet is slated for a 7 p.m. start and will air live on the ACC Network Extra.

THE MATCHUP
- Friday's matchup will be the 52nd time the Panthers and Tarheels have met in program history.
- The last time the two programs competed against each other, the Tarheels topped the Panthers, 196.350-194.225 at the 2023 EAGL Championships.
- North Carolina currently holds a 38-13 edge to Pitt.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Panthers feel to the NC State Wolfpack on Friday evening at Reynolds Coliseum.
- The Panthers kicked off their second ACC matchup of the season on bars. Jah'Liyah Bedminster and Julie Madso secured Pitt's highest score of the night on the rotation with their 9.800 on bars.
- Bedminster earned a season-high on Friday night on vault with her 9.825.
- Fifth year Shruthi Anand posted a 9.750 in the second rotation.
- Pitt posted a season high on floor with their team score of 49.200.
- Each Panther secured a 9.775 or higher for their routines tonight on floor.
- Ciara Ward was at the top of the lineup for Pitt – securing a 9.800 for her routine.
- Kennedy Duke continued her journey in the All-Around – posting a career-high with her 9.825.
- Both Hallie Copperwheat and Jordyn Ewing continued the momentum for the Panthers – dazzling the audience with their 9.850 routines.
- Bedminster posted Pitt's highest score on floor tonight as well as secured a career-high with her 9.875.
- Copperwheat posted a strong routine on beam for Pitt on the final rotation – earning a 9.800.
SCOUTING THE TARHEELS
- North Carolina fell to Clemson Friday night at Carmichael Arena, 196.550-194.250.
- The Tarheels posted their highest team score of the season on floor and collected four individual podium titles.
- Kaya Forbes posted a 9.850 on vault – securing the second place title overall.
- Isabelle Schaefer posted a 9.925 on bars – recording her fifth career victory on the event.
- Julia Knower earned a team high of 9.800 on beam with Jessica Naranjo not far behind with her career-high 9.750.
- Knower posted a second place finish on floor with her 9.900. The Tarheels saw two more 9.800+ scores with Gwen Fink's 9.875 and Forbes' 9.825.
THE TERRIFIC TODD
- Freshman Todd who secured the first-ever ACC Newcomer of the Week honor (1/9) posted the highest score Pitt has seen thus far this season on Friday evening. She earned a 9.900 for her routine on bars.
- The Bristol, England native tied for the first place title on bars against Clemson (1/21) with her 9.825.
NOTHING BETTER THAN BEDMINSTER
- Senior Bedminster secured Pitt's first-ever ACC Gymnast of the Week honor (1/15) for her performance against the Kent State Golden Flashes.
- The Loganville, GA native posted a season-high on vault with her 9.825 against the Wolfpack.
- In the meet at NC State (1/26), Bedminster secured a career-high 9.875 with her floor routine.
SHE KEN-NEDY DO IT ALL
- Sophomore Duke posted a career-high score on floor against the Wolfpack – posting a 9.825.
UP NEXT
- Pitt will remain at home as they welcome the Clemson Tigers on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Fitzgerald Field House for the annual Pride Meet.
