PITTSBURGH – The No. 1 overall seed Pitt volleyball team (29-1, 19-1 ACC) is ready to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament this weekend, beginning play against Morehead State on Friday night at 7 p.m. With a win, the Panthers will play the winner of Oklahoma/UTEP on Saturday night at 7 p.m. for a spot in the Regional Semifinals. This would mark Pitt's fifth straight season advancing to that stage.
Pitt and Morehead State meet for the fourth time in program history, and the Panthers lead the series 2-1. The last time the two played was in 2021 as Pitt earned the sweep. The Eagles most recently made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2020 where they beat Creighton in five sets to advance to the Round of 32. Ultimately, they were defeated by Florida in a sweep. Morehead State compiled an 18-14 overall record and went 12-6 in the Ohio Valley.
The Panthers and Sooners will potentially play for the second time in the Round of 32. Pitt upended Oklahoma in 2018 in four sets in their only meeting. The Sooners saw their name appear in the NCAA Selection Show for the first time since 2019 as they fell in the first round in straight sets to Rice.
With a win from each team, Pitt and UTEP will meet for the first time. The Miners had an impressive regular season record of 27-5, including a 16-2 slate in Conference USA.
