PITTSBURGH – Junior guard Amiya Jenkins will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign after suffering a season-ending knee injury, while sophomore forward Lauren Rust is expected to miss a significant period of time due to a leg injury, as announced by head coach Tory Verdi Monday morning.
"We wish both Amiya and Lauren a speedy recovery," said Verdi. "They are both fierce competitors and have shown incredible determination and resilience. I'm confident that they will attack the rehabilitation process head-on. With the help of our training staff, we expect both players to make a full recovery."
Jenkins, who sustained the season-ending injury in last week's game against then-No. 15 West Virginia, led Pitt to consecutive wins over Canisius and Bucknell to open the year. The Lexington, Ky., product averaged an impressive 14.5 points and 4.0 rebounds over the two games.
Rust, a native of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, is expected to miss an extended period of time after suffering a leg injury last week. The standout forward started in each of Pitt's first three games, averaging 8.0 points and 6.3 rebounds, while shooting 60 percent from the floor.
