THE OPENING TIP
- Pitt continues its season-opening homestand Monday, Nov. 11 with a 7 p.m. tipoff against Gardner-Webb at the Petersen Events Center. Monday's contest is available to watch on ACC Network Extra with Jason Earle and Nick Rivers calling the action.
- Pitt is 2-0 all-time against Gardner-Webb, including a 67-50 win over the Runnin' Bulldogs Dec. 12, 2020. Justin Champagnie delivered a memorable performance in that contest with 24 points and 21 rebounds for his second consecutive 20/20 game that season.
- Jaland Lowe has opened the season with consecutive 20-point scoring games and has now scored in double figures in 17 of his past 19 games as a Panther.
- Pitt's starting backcourt of Damian Dunn, Ishmael Leggett, and Jaland Lowe has six double-figure scoring games and combines to average 54.5 points per game on 54.5 percent (36-of-66) shooting from the field. The unit combined for 58 points in Friday's win over Murray State.
- Pitt has won 17 consecutive games and is 40-2 under Jeff Capel when scoring 80 or more points in a game. The Panthers have topped the 80-point mark in five of their past six games at the Petersen Events Center.
- The Panthers are averaging 89.5 points per game, while shooting 53.4 percent (63-of-118) from the field. Cameron Corhen is shooting a team-high 66.7 percent from the field, while Ishmael Leggett is shooting 65.2 percent through two games.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Ishmael Leggett was named Preseason Second Team All-ACC, as selected by the league's media voting panel. Leggett, the reigning ACC Sixth Man of the Year, has scored 19 points in each of the first two games of the season and is 15-of-23 (.652) from the field on the year.
- Incoming transfer Cameron Corhen is averaging 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, while shooting 66.7 percent (12-of-18) from the field. He recorded his third career double-double (13/10) in Friday's win over Murray State and has now scored in double figures 26 times in his career.
- Guillermo Diaz Graham looks to build on a strong sophomore season that saw him average 6.7 points and 3.9 rebounds in 17.9 minutes per game. He shot a team-high 40.5 percent (32-of-79) from three-point range, while also adding 28 blocked shots and 27 steals. Diaz Graham is averaging 8.5 points and 7.0 rebounds through two games this season.
- Zack Austin has 1,118 points, 570 rebounds, 185 blocks, and 158 three-pointers in 98 career games. He is one of 15 players in NCAA history to register at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 150 blocks, and 150 threes in a career. Austin matched his Pitt high with five blocked shots to go along with eight rebounds against Murray State.
- Amsal Delalic is expected to make his season debut Monday after being sidelined for the past six weeks with a right hand injury. The 6-8 freshman guard played professionally with Borac Nektar competing in both the Bosnian - Division I and Adriatic Liga 2 from 2021-24. Last season, he scored 483 points and shot 82-of-205 (.400) from three-point range with 25 double-figure scoring efforts in 35 games.
- Brandin Cummings has provided a spark off the Pitt bench and is averaging 7.0 points and 2.5 assists in 18.0 minutes per game. A three-time all-state selection and younger brother of 2023 Pitt standout Nelly Cummings, Cummings posted 2,222 points with 271 three-pointers during his high school career at Lincoln Park in Midland, Pa.
- The Panthers return four of their top six scorers from a year ago with the backcourt tandem of Ishmael Leggett (12.3 ppg., 5.5 rpg.) and Jaland Lowe (9.6 ppg., 109 assists) leading the way. Lowe and Leggett are combining to average 39.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per game on the young season.
- The Panthers have three 1,000-point scorers on the roster in Ishamel Leggett (1,364), Damian Dunn (1,318), and Zack Austin (1,118).
- Pitt has five players 6-10 or taller on the roster for the first time in program history. The Panthers starting frontcourt Cameron Corhen (6-10) and Guillermo Diaz Graham (7-0) combines to average 21.0 points and 14.5 rebounds per game.
- Pitt has outscored the opposition 41-14 in points off turnovers through the first two games. The Panthers are averaging just 8.5 turnovers per game after finishing last season among the ACC leaders in that category as well.
- Pitt is averaging 40.0 points in the paint through two games. The Panthers scored 50 points in the paint in the season opening win over Radford, matching the most in a game under head coach Jeff Capel. The Panthers also scored 50 points in the paint in wins over Central Arkansas and New Orleans during the 2018-19 season.
- Head coach Jeff Capel is one win shy of his 100th victory at Pitt. The Panthers have 48 wins since the start of the 2022-23 season, sixth most among ACC programs in that span.
PANTHER SPOTLIGHT – DAMIAN DUNN
- Damian Dunn, a two-time All-AAC selection at Temple, is averaging 15.0 points per game, while shooting 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from the field, 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from three-point range, and 80.0 percent (8-of-10) from the foul line for the Panthers.
- Dunn is averaging 11.8 points per game in 111 career contests (64 starts). He has scored in double figures 65 times with 15 games with 20 or more points and three games with 30 or more points scored in his career.
- Dunn scored a season-best 19 points, including 11 points in the opening nine minutes of action, in Friday's win over Murray State.
