THE OPENING TIP
- Pitt opens the 2024-25 season Monday, Nov. 4 with a 7 p.m. tipoff at the Petersen Events Center against Radford. Monday's contest is available to watch on ACC Network Extra with Jason Earle and Nick Rivers calling the action.
- The Panthers are 81-36 all-time in season openers. Pitt is 17-2 in season openers at the Petersen Events Center and has won 24 of its past 27 season opening contests.
- Head coach Jeff Capel is 11-4 in his head coaching career in season openers, including a 4-2 mark at Pitt.
- Pitt has won 20 of 22 home openers at the Petersen Events Center and is 94-23 all-time in home openers.
- The Panthers recorded an exhibition win over Point Park (93-62) and a closed scrimmage win over Cincinnati (71-62) during the preseason. Ishmael Leggett averaged 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in the two contests.
- Incoming transfers Cameron Corhen and Damian Dunn combined to average 24.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in two preseason contests. Corhen had 14 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Point Park, while both Corhen and Dunn had 14 points in the scrimmage win over Cincinnati.
- Pitt went 11-of-23 (.478) from three-point range and 16-of-17 (.941) from the foul line against the Bearcats. Seven different Panthers made a three-pointer against Cincinnati with Jaland Lowe hitting from beyond the arc three times.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Jaland Lowe was ranked No. 78 in CBS Sports Top 100 (+1) and No. 84 in ESPN Top 100 players in college basketball entering the season. The sophomore guard averaged 12.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists in ACC regular season play last season with 16 of his 17 double-figure scoring games coming against ACC opponents.
- Pitt has three 1,000-point scorers on the roster with Ishamel Leggett (1,326), Damian Dunn (1,288), and Zach Austin (1,113) combining for 3,727 career points.
- Guillermo Diaz Graham looks to build on a strong sophomore season that saw him average 6.7 points and 3.9 rebounds in 17.9 minutes per game. He shot a team-high 40.5 percent (32-of-79) from three-point range, while also adding 28 blocked shots and 27 steals.
- Cameron Corhen averaged 8.8 points and 3.7 rebounds over 60 games (33 starts), while shooting 58.7 percent (210-of-358) from the field and 73.5 percent (100-of-136) from the foul line in his first two seasons at Florida State. He has scored in double figures 24 times with a career-high 25 points at Pitt last season as a member of the Seminoles.
- Zack Austin has 1,113 points, 561 rebounds, 179 blocks, and 157 three-pointers in 96 career games. He is one of 15 players in the NCAA since 1994-95 to register at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 150 blocks, and 150 threes in a career.
- Ishmael Leggett enters the season with a string of 21 consecutive made free throws. He shot a team-high 85.9 percent (79-of-92) from the free throw line last season.
- Jorge Diaz Graham is back healthy after missing much of last season due to injury. He enters his third year in the program averaging 3.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in 47 career games.
- Damian Dunn, a two-time All-AAC selection at Temple, is averaging 11.8 points per game in 109 career contests (62 starts). He has scored in double figures 63 times with 15 games with 20 or more points and three games with 30 or more points scored in his career.
- Amsal Delalic has been sidelined for six weeks with a right hand injury. The 6-8 freshman guard played professionally with Borac Nektar competing in both the Bosnian - Division I and Adriatic Liga 2 from 2021-24. Last season, he scored 483 points and shot 82-of-205 (.400) from three-point range with 25 double-figure scoring efforts in 35 games.
- Papa Amadou Kante and Marlon Barnes, Jr. look to make their Pitt debuts after redshirting as freshmen a year ago. Amadou Kante, a top 100 recruit in the Class of 2023, suffered a knee injury in the preseason a year ago. He returned to full action for the Panthers in September.
- Brandin Cummings begins his career at Pitt after scoring 2,222 points in high school at Lincoln Park in Midland, Pa. A three-time all-state selection, Cummings is the younger brother of 2023 Pitt standout Nelly Cummings.
- Pitt has five players 6-10 or taller on the roster for the first time in program history. The Panthers are expected to start 6-10 Cameron Corhen and 7-0 Guillermo Diaz Graham in the post.
- Pitt made 642 three-point field goals (9.3 3pg.) over that past two seasons. The Panthers' 2024-25 roster has made a combined 489 threes with Zack Austin (157), Ishmael Leggett (123), and Damian Dunn (110) providing 390 of the 489 makes from beyond the arc.
- Pitt returns four of its top six scorers from a year ago. Ishmael Leggett leads the group of returnees after averaging 12.3 points and a team-high 5.5 rebounds per game.
PANTHER SPOTLIGHT
- Senior guard Ishmael Leggett was named Preseason Second Team All-ACC, as selected by the league's media voting panel. Leggett, the reigning ACC Sixth Man of the Year, closed the 2023-24 season averaging 12.3 points, an ACC-guard leading 5.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.
- Leggett led the Panthers in rebounding and steals (41), while making 35 three-pointers and shooting 85.9 percent from the free-throw line. He scored in double figures 23 times and collected five or more rebounds in 20 games during his first season in Oakland.
- Leggett enters his senior season with 1,326 points, 519 rebounds, 206 assists, and 130 steals in 119 career games. He has 69 double-figure scoring games, including 13 career games with 20 or more points scored
