
Pitt Women Post Six Event Wins in First-Ever Dual Meet Against Minnesota

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women's swimming and diving team secured six first place finishes but fell to Minnesota, 177-123, on Friday afternoon at the Senior Meet. This was the first time in program history that the Panthers and Golden Gophers have competed in a dual meet.
Pitt kicked off the annual senior meet with 1-meter and 3-meter diving as well as platform exhibitions. Mid-year enrollee Mariana Osorio Mendoza posted the second highest score for women's platform diving in Pitt's history. She registered a 296.48 across five dives on platform – securing an NCAA Zone Cut.
Megan Iannon took third and Jess Vega took fourth in the 1-meter with their scores of 291.83 and 281.78, respectively.
On the swimming side, the Panthers picked up six first place finishes against the Golden Gophers. Pitt started off strong, posting a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The team comprised of Claire Jansen, Jessica Strong, Sophie Yendell and Sydney Gring clocked in a time of 1:41.79.
Continuing the momentum, Jansen secured a first-place finish in both the 100 and 200 Back – posting times of 54.56 and 1:59, respectively. Parker Del Baso was not far behind Jansen in the 200 Back – coming in fourth place with her time of 2:01.90.
Freshman Avery Kudlac found herself in second place in the 200 Fly – clocking in at 2:01.59.
The Panthers continued to shine as Pitt made a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 Breast. Strong claimed first (1:04.17), Jayla Pina took second (1:04.76), and Maddie London secured third (1:04.87).
Gring, Strong and Kate Bailey finished strong in their events – each posting second place finishes. Gring clocked 2:01.59 in the 200 Fly and secured a 2:05.80 finish in the 200 IM, Strong posted 2:19.91 in the 200 Breast, and Bailey finished with a time of 5:16.38 in the 500 Free.
Yendell finished in first in the 50 Free (22.95) and the 100 Fly (54.82) while Olivia Yoo secured the third-place finish in the 100 Fly – posting a time of 56.66.
The Panthers completed the afternoon with the 400 Medley Relay. The team comprised of Kudlac, Yendell, Tara Culibrk and Jansen finished second with a time of 3:26.77.

The Panthers are set to wrap up the meet against Minnesota tomorrow, Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. where they will compete in long course meters.
