PITTSBURGH – Pitt hosts Syracuse Tuesday, Jan. 16 at the Petersen Events Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. with Dave O’Brien and Cory Alexander calling the action on ESPN2.
THE OPENING TIP
- The Panthers have won the past three meetings (with a +14.3 scoring margin) against Syracuse at the Petersen Events Center.
- Pitt dropped an 81-73 decision at Syracuse in the first meeting between the two schools this season. The Panthers led by double-digits early in the second half before being undone by turnovers (15) and poor free throw shooting (11-of-24, .458).
- Pitt is on the road for three consecutive games following Tuesday’s contest with Syracuse. The Panthers play at Duke, Georgia Tech, and Miami over an eight-day span from Jan. 20-27.
- Pitt leads the ACC in offensive rebounds (13.1 orpg.) and defensive rebound pct. (.760), while ranking second in rebounds (40.2 orpg.), rebound margin (+5.94), and offensive rebound percentage (.337). The Panthers have been outrebounded in all four losses in league play.
- Blake Hinson has scored in double figures in 14 games with seven 20+ point games. He ranks among the ACC leaders in scoring (4th - 18.4 ppg.), three-pointers (1st - 54), and three-point percentage (7th - .409).
- Carlton Carrington has recorded six games with at least 15 points and five assists. He is the only freshman in the country averaging at least 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.
PANTHER SPOTLIGHTS
- Guillermo Diaz Graham is averaging 9.3 points, 6.5 rebounds. 1.7 assists, 2.2 steals, and 2.0 blocks as a starter over the past six games.
- Zack Austin is six made threes shy of becoming the 14th player in the NCAA since 1994-95 to register at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 150 blocks, and 150 threes in a career.
- Pitt is 8-4 on the season when Blake Hinson makes three or more three-pointers in a game. Hinson ranks 15th at Pitt with 151 career threes in just 52 games with the Panthers.

BY THE NUMBERS - INDIVIDUAL
- Carlton Carrington has scored in double figures 14 times with five or more assists on 10 occasions. He leads ACC freshmen in assists (4.8 apg.), while ranking second in points (14.3 ppg), rebounds (5.2 rpg.), and three-point field goals (32).
- Blake Hinson has made at least one three-pointer in 49 of 52 games as a Panther and is now 151-of-388 (.389) from three-point range in his career at Pitt. He has reached 150 made threes in fewer games than anyone in program history.
- Ishmael Leggett leads the Panthers in rebounding (5.8 rpg.), while ranking second in assists (38) and steals (18) and third in scoring (11.9 ppg.). He suffered a shoulder injury against North Carolina Jan. 2 and is averaging 3.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game over the past two contests. He also missed Pitt’s win over Louisville with the injury.
- Zack Austin is averaging 10.7 points per game, while going 23-of-44 (.523) from the field, including 9-of-21 (.429) from three-point range, over the past six games. He has scored in double figures in four of the past six games.
- The post tandem of Guillermo Diaz Graham and Federiko Federiko combine to average 13.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game, while shooting 56.0 percent (79-of-141) from the field.
- Jaland Lowe is averaging 7.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 23.4 minutes per game over the past six contests. He is 6-of-15 (.400) from three-point range during that stretch.
- Guillermo Diaz Graham has grabbed five or more rebounds in five of the past six games. He has also posted four or more combined blocks and steals in five of the past six contests.
- Pitt is the only team in the ACC with three players - Federiko Federiko, Zack Austin and Guillermo Diaz Graham - ranked in the top 15 in the league in blocks. The trio has combined for 60 of Pitt’s 79 blocked shots on the season.

- The Panthers have made 10 or more threes in a game eight times and are averaging an ACC best 9.6 three-point field goals per game. Pitt has made 50 more three-pointers than it has allowed this season.
- Pitt has held nine opponents below 30 percent shooting from three-point range and ranks 14th in the NCAA in three-point percentage defense (.281). Pitt’s past two opponents combined to go 21-of-46 (.457) from beyond the arc.
- The Panthers rank among the ACC leaders in scoring defense (T-3rd - 66.1 ppg.), field goal percentage defense (4th - .408), three-point percentage defense (1st - .281), and blocked shots (T-2nd - 4.94 bpg.).
- Pitt is 9-1 on the season when winning the rebounding battle but has been outrebounded in four of five league games.
- The Panthers are 60-12 under Jeff Capel, including a 9-1 mark this season, when leading at the half. Pitt’s lone loss when leading at the half came Dec. 30 at Syracuse when the Panthers surrendered an eight-point halftime lead.
- Pitt is two home wins shy of reaching the 300-win plateau at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers are looking to become the eighth team in the NCAA to reach 300 home wins since the start of the 2002-03 season.
