
Panthers Play No. 18 North Carolina To 0-0 Draw On Friday Night

PITTSBURGH – Despite controlling much of play in the second half, the Pitt men's soccer team (4-3-3, 1-1-2 ACC) played to a 0-0 draw against No. 18 North Carolina on Friday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Sophomore goalkeeper Cabral Carter finished off his impressive night tying a career-high with five saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED – FIRST HALF
- The Tar Heels recorded the first shot of the match in the fourth minute as Sam Williams ripped a hard shot from the right side over top of the cage
- Cabral Carter came up with his best save of the half in the 29th minute as he came out and made a kick save on a chance by Martin Vician
- In the 39th minute, Filip Mirkovic had the first shot on goal for the Panthers as he ripped a shot from the top of the box that was stopped by the UNC keeper
- North Carolina had the final chance of the half in the 43rd minute but Carter came up with a huge stop to send the match to halftime knotted, 0-0
HOW IT HAPPENED – SECOND HALF
- Pitt had a great chance early on in the second half as Guilherme Feitosa headed a Noah Hall cross towards the right corner of the goal but it rang off the post and was cleared out by UNC
- In the 69th minute, Albert Thorsen took a feed from Feitosa and weaved his way to the top of the box but his shot just missed the upper left corner
- A minute later, Thorsen fed Michael Sullivan but his low shot attempt was scooped up by the UNC keeper who was down on a knee
- Cabral Carter made a massive save in the 73rd minute as Martin Vician got free in the middle of the box and redirected a cross towards the cage but Carter poked the shot over top of the cage
- Feitosa had another great chance in the 84th minute as he was dragged down at the top of the box and earned a free kick. On the ensuing kick, Feitosa bent a shot over the UNC wall but the bending shot rang off the left goal post and was cleared out by a defender to preserve the 0-0 score
- In the 87th minute, Mirkovic had a chance from outside the box but the UNC keeper made another strong save
- A minute later, Luis Sahmkow tried his luck but his shot was deflected away by the keeper as the two teams played to a 0-0 draw
MATCH STATS
- For the match, the two teams were tied with 11 shots and six corner kicks each
- Mirkovic led the Panthers with three shots (two on goal) while Feitosa and Thorsen each had two in the draw
- Carter tied a career-high with five saves for the Panthers in his fourth clean sheet of the season
