MEET NOTES
- The University of Pittsburgh men's and women's swimming teams open the 2023-24 season with a long-course meters meet against Army West Point. Friday's meet will consist of only swimming events. The home opener will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
- The home opener marks just the third time the Panthers will face off against the Cadets since the 1974-75 season. Most recently, the two teams met in 2021 were both the men's and women's team defeated Army by the scores of 231-80 and 193-92, respectively.
- Pitt heads into the Olympic year with four U.S. Olympic Trials qualifiers and six other student-athletes within .80 or less of a trials qualifying time. The Panthers have two swimmers (Jerry Chen, 200 Breast; Claire Jansen, 100 Back) and two divers (Cameron Cash, Dylan Reed) meet the qualifying marks for the Olympic Trials.
- Pitt returns five fifth-year student-athletes: Jerry Chen, Dylan Reed, Adam Mahler, Maddie London, and Dominic Toledo.
- Marcin Goraj returns to Trees after claiming a bronze medal in the 100 Back (54.89) at the Polish Nationals and earned a silver medal for his prelims swim in the 400 Mixed Medley Relay.
- Last season, Goraj set school records in the 200 Back (1:40.34), 200 Free (1:33.91) and led off for the 400 Medley Relay team that earned honorable mention All-American honors with a time of 3:05.72.
- Sophie Yendell became a British National Champion in the 50 Fly (26.16) the second fastest Great Britain swimmer of all time in the 50 Fly and is currently ranked 49th in the world for 2023.
- Incoming freshman Michal Piela comes to Pittsburgh with the top time among the 2023 recruiting class in the 400 IM (4:17.82) and is currently ranked 58th in the world in the event.
- Graduate transfer Max Matteazzi comes to Pitt for his final two years of eligibility after completing a degree for the University of Verona. Matteazzi ranked 57th in the world in the 200 IM (SCM) for 2022.
