PITTSBURGH—A trio of Pitt players were represented on the latest award watch lists unveiled today.
Senior cornerback M.J. Devonshire has been named to the Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse. The honor is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football.
Devonshire earned All-ACC accolades as both a corner and return specialist last year. He scored three total touchdowns—two on interceptions and one punt return—becoming the first Pitt player to score TDs via both INT and punt returns in the same season since the iconic Darrelle Revis in 2006.
Devonshire's most celebrated play was his 56-yard pick six that lifted the Panthers past Backyard Brawl rival West Virginia, 38-31.
Additionally, junior tight end Gavin Bartholomew and senior defensive tackle David Green were named to the watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy, regarded as college football's premier award for community service.
Bartholomew recently led an effort on behalf of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to benefit undeserved children and families throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania.
Green has launched a fundraising campaign aimed at raising $22,222 for the Boys & Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania, an organization he volunteers with and was himself a beneficiary of as a youth.
