2023: Joined Pitt as a mid-year graduate transfer from Boston College with one season of immediate eligibility remaining...played in six games, starting the initial five games of the season at quarterback...completed 57-of-112 passes (51%) for 818 yards and six touchdowns against three interceptions...threw for a season-high 235 yards on 11-of-22 passing with two touchdowns at Virginia Tech...passed for a season-high three touchdowns against Cincinnati, finishing 10 of 32 for 179 yards...completed 11 of 15 (73%) for 109 yards in one half of action against North Carolina before leaving the game due to injury...lone rushing touchdown of the season was a 23-yard run against Wofford.
PRIOR TO PITT: In three seasons at Boston College (2020-22), threw for 5,184 yards on 59% passing (404 of 679) with 35 touchdowns and 17 interceptions…also rushed for nine TDs with the Eagles…most productive season came in 2020, when in 10 starting assignments he threw for 2,558 yards on 61% passing (205 of 336) with 17 TDs and five INTs…set career highs in a 31-30 overtime win over Pitt that season by throwing for 358 yards and three touchdowns, including a 77-yard scoring strike…spent the 2018-19 seasons at Notre Dame, appearing in nine games…completed 12-of-18 passes for 222 yards and two TDs for the Irish.
HIGH SCHOOL: U.S. Army All-American at Pine-Richland, where he threw for 8,202 yards and 71 TDs, completing 68% of his passes (523 of 765)…his 11,144 total yards ranked second in WPIAL history…as a senior (2017), threw for 3,969 yards and 39 touchdowns against just six interceptions while completing 73% of his passes (243 of 334)..also rushed for 1,211 yards and 24 TDs on 132 carries (9.2 avg.)…his 5,180 total yards set a state record…became the second WPIAL quarterback to throw for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 (joining Jeannette’s Terrelle Pryor, who played at Ohio State)…led Pine-Richland to a 16-0 record and the WPIAL and PIAA Class 6A championships…the Rams finished No. 12 in the final 2017 MaxPreps Top 25 rankings...Pennsylvania Football Writers Class 6A Player of the Year…named to the Rivals100 (No. 87), Top247 (No. 115) and ESPN 300 (No. 126)…played under Coach Eric Kasperowicz (a Pitt football letterman, 1994-95 and 1997).
PERSONAL: Philip Stephen Jurkovec, born 11/3/99, is the son of Jim and Sara Jurkovec…has three brothers and two sisters…earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Boston College…pursuing a second major in media and professional communications from Pitt.
