Boys of Summer: Summer Ball Update

PITTSBURGH – With the summer ball season winding down, the Panthers now currently have seven players still playing in collegiate summer ball leagues.
RHP Jack Sokol and C Jayden Melendez are teammates in the Cape Cod League, IF Nolan Kutney, IF Anthony LaSala, OF Caleb Sturtevant, LHP Ryan Reed are all in the Valley Baseball League, while RHP Kyle Mosley is in the California Premier Collegiate League (CPCL).
Kyle Mosley and the Palm Springs Power became the inaugural CPCL champions as they finished their historic season 30-1 and swept the championship series this past weekend.
Cape Cod League
Jayden Melendez was added to the Chatham Anglers roster on July 6th and has appeared in four games for them. He had an RBI single up the middle in his most recent game for the Anglers this past week.
Jack Sokol has appeared in four games for the Anglers and has made two starts. In his most recent start, he allowed just three hits over 4.1 scoreless innings as he struck out five batters.
California Premier Collegiate League
Mosley finished his summer ball season with a 3-0 record and a team-low 1.17 ERA over his 30.2 innings pitched. He made three starts in his 10 appearances throughout the summer and struck out 45 batters.
Valley League
Nolan Kutney has played in 24 games so far this summer for the New Market Rebels, he has 12 hits and has knocked in eight runs. He's recorded a hit in six of his last eight games, which includes an RBI single in his most recent contest.
Anthony LaSala is tied for most games played for the Strasburg Express this summer with 32, starting in 29 of them. He is currently riding a five-game hit streak where he has recorded seven hits and three RBI. This summer LaSala is hitting .256 with 21 hits, four doubles, 20 runs scored, 10 RBI, and 12 stolen bases.
Throughout his 28 games so far this summer for the Woodstock River Bandits, Caleb Sturtevant is hitting .242 and has driven in 11 runs. He has totaled 16 hits with two doubles and a home run. He went 1-2 with a single in one of his most recent games.
Ryan Reed has been the winning pitcher of record in two of his last three outings for the River Bandits. His best start this summer came against Nolan Kutney and the New Market Rebels as he struck out nine over seven innings, only allowing one run. He had an almost identical stat line in his very next start, earning a win after throwing six innings of one run baseball as he struck out four.
Play in both the Cape Cod League and the Valley League will finish by the second week of August. Once those seasons come to a close, the student-athletes will make their way back to campus to prepare for their fall semesters and fall seasons.
