Whaley Set to Make Professional Debut with OKC Spark

PITTSBURGH – Former Pitt shortstop Yvonne Whaley is set to make her professional debut with the Oklahoma City Spark during the opening day of Women's Professional Fastpitch (WPF). Whaley and the Spark open the season Thursday at 8 p.m. ET against the SIS Vipers at the University of Central Oklahoma.
In its second season, the WPF consists of four teams that will play from June 15-August 7, with playoffs and a championship series to be announced at a later date.
Whaley was selected 21st overall during the inaugural draft back in April. The Houston, Texas, native earned First-Team All-ACC and NFCA All-Region honors with the Panthers after ending the regular season leading the nation in doubles per game (0.40) and ranking among league leaders in doubles (17 – 8th), batting average (.439 – 15th), and hits (65 – 29th). Whaley was the second toughest batter to strikeout among conference players, 13th overall, recording just five strikeouts in 148 at-bats.
