Pitt Sweeps NC State in Regular Season Finale

PITTSBURGH – Pitt swept NC State in a three-game series and defeated the Wolfpack in both games of a doubleheader by the scores of 12-8 and 9-5, Saturday afternoon at Vartabedian Field. The Panthers end the 2023 season with a 24-25 overall record and a 6-17 record in conference play.

The series win marked the first sweep for the Panthers since taking all four games against North Carolina from April 16-18, 2021.

Pitt combined to score nine runs over the first two frames, with four runs in the first inning and five runs in the second inning.

Kat Rodriguez and Sarah Seamans started the rally with back-to-back singles through the left side. Bailey Drapola got hit by a pitch to load the bases while Amanda "Tuta" Ramirez and Haylie Brunson hit back-to-back doubles to take a 4-0 early lead.

Rachael Fuerst capped off the five-run second inning with her first career grand slam in the bottom of the second inning. The Panthers scored one more run in the third inning while Bailey Drapola hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

Dani Drogemuller earned the win after allowing three runs, one earned, with two walks and a strikeout.

Pitt continued their strong offensive performance in the second game of the day. Seamans hit a two-run home run in the top of the first to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. Pitt scored another five runs in the second inning, highlighted by Drapola's two-run homer.

Pitt scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth off an RBI single from Cami Compson and another RBI single from EC Taylor to make the score 9-3

The Wolfpack hit two solo home runs in the top of the seventh inning but could not overcome Pitt as the Panthers secured the series sweep.
