
Panthers Put On A Strong Showing At UVA Challenge

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh track and field program concluded competition at the UVA Challenge, on Saturday evening with outstanding performances.
On Thursday, Daniel Amaya opened up competition for the Panthers by claiming seventh place and a personal best with a mark of 62.15m.
Friday's competition started with the women's pole vault, Sophomore Kathryn Hart took home a personal best and 11th place finish with a mark of 3.38m.
Junior Otoniel Badjana collected seventh place with a mark of 51.42m in the men's discus.
On the track, Nikki Scherer clocked a personal best time of 54.23 and a third-place finish. She was followed by Freshman Success Duruzor (54.37) in fifth place.
Next, Junior Jack Miller took first place in the men's steeplechase with a time of 8:49.77. On the women's side, Gianna Cagliola placed eighth by crossing the finish line with a time of 11:17.27.
Freshman Aleksandra Stoilova put down an impressive performance in the women's 100m by snagging fifth place and a personal best with a time of 11.50. On the men's side, Sophomore Nigel Hussey ran a time of 10.49 to claim a personal best and fourth place finish. He was followed by Freshman Darren McQueen with a personal best time of 10.52.
Then, Junior Jack Balick recorded a personal best in the men's 800m with a time of 1:49.44 to take 18th place.
To conclude Friday's action, Luke Henseler secured eighth place and a personal best finish with a time of 14:00.47 in the men's 5000m.
On the final day of competition, the Panthers withstood scattered showers as Freshman Sacha Quequin notched a personal best in men's long jump by clearing 7.09m.
Badjana returned to the field to claim eighth place in the men's shot put with a mark of 16.54m.
On the track, Folake Olujide-Ajibade recorded a personal best eighth-place finish in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 13.75.
Next, Aleksandra Stoilova, Imani Clark, Sydney McCallum, and Nikki Scherer took home a second finish in the women's 4x100m with a time of 45.93. On the men's side, Nigel Hussey, Stephon Brown, Darren McQueen, and Sacha Quequin ran a time of 41.69 to place sixth.
In the women's 400m hurdles, Jazmyn Potts crossed the finish line first for the Panthers with a time of 1:01.85. She was followed by Sophomore Mackenzie Sullivan (1:02.07) in seventh place. On the men's side, Devin Nugent finished fourth with a time of 53.43. He was followed by Senior Raymond Oriakhi (53.86) in seventh place.
To conclude Saturday's action, Stoilova returned to the track to claim fourth in the women's 200m with a time of 23.99. Followed by Scherer (24.28) in eighth place. On the men's side, Hussey took third with a time of 21.02.
NEXT UP
The Panthers will travel to Philadelphia on Thursday, April 27 as they compete in the three-day meet Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, in the team's final competition before the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship on May 11.

On the track, Folake Olujide-Ajibade recorded a personal best eighth-place finish in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 13.75.
Next, Aleksandra Stoilova, Imani Clark, Sydney McCallum, and Nikki Scherer took home a second finish in the women's 4x100m with a time of 45.93. On the men's side, Nigel Hussey, Stephon Brown, Darren McQueen, and Sacha Quequin ran a time of 41.69 to place sixth.
