LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Pitt dropped its first two games of conference play, 12-2 and 5-4, in a doubleheader against Louisville at Ulmer Stadium, Friday evening.
After an hour and half weather delay due to cold temperatures, the Panthers utilized three pitchers in game one, and found success in the circle in game two, with Dani Drogemuller racking up eight strikeouts in 6.2 innings of action.
Pitt struggled to find its footing offensively until late in game two, tallying four hits in the opener and six hits in the backend of its doubleheader.
Pitt 2, Louisville 12
Louisville came out of the gates hot offensively, racking up four runs apiece in each of the first three innings to take a 12-0 lead.
The Panthers' offense showed flashes late, scoring their first run of the game in the fourth frame off an RBI single by Cami Compson, followed by a sacrifice fly in the fifth by Kylie Griggs, but ultimately couldn't find enough offense to fight back into the game.
Pitt 4, Louisville 5
The Cardinals opened the scoring again in game two, jumping out to a four-run lead through four frames.
Pitt answered back in the sixth, evening the score with four runs of its own. Sarah Seamans started things off with an RBI single to left field to knock in the Panthers' first run of the game, followed by a two-RBI double by Haylie Brunson to make it 4-3. Compson then came up clutch with an RBI double to center field to tie the game with two outs and a runner on second.
The two teams went into the final frame tied at four apiece, but a two-out RBI single up the middle by Louisville in the bottom of the seventh led to a walk-off win for the Cardinals.
