GREENSBORO, NC – The Pitt women's basketball team (10-20, 3-15 ACC) fell in the First Round of the 2023 Ally ACC Women's Basketball Tournament Wednesday afternoon at the Greensboro Coliseum to the Clemson Tigers by the score of 71-53.

Amber Brown led the Panthers in scoring as she netted 16 points, four rebounds and two assists while Dayshanette Harris finished with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals off the bench in the loss. Maliyah Johnson finished with 10 points and five rebounds while Liatu King had five points, a team-high nine rebounds and two assists.

FIRST QUARTER

The Tigers opened the scoring with a jumper but Channise Lewis came right back and knocked down a triple to open the scoring for Pitt.
After five straight points by Maliyah Johnson, Lewis netted her second triple of the quarter to give Pitt the 11-10 lead early on.
After the Tigers claimed the 14-11 lead before the media, Dayshanette Harris closed out the scoring with five straight to give Pitt the 16-14 lead through 10 minutes.

SECOND QUARTER

The Tigers opened the second quarter on an 11-0 run to push their lead out to 25-16 midway through the quarter.
Out of the timeout, Amber Brown scored four straight for Pitt but the Tigers scored the final two of the half to take the 33-20 lead into the locker room.
Pitt shot just 19.4% from the floor in the opening 20 minutes while the Tigers shot 33.3%.

THIRD QUARTER

The Tigers scored five straight to start the third before Avery Strickland ended the run with a triple to make it 38-23 in favor of Clemson.
Liatu King and Amber Brown finished off layups to make it 43-27 at the media timeout in the third quarter.
Harris and King closed out the scoring in the third with back-to-back buckets as the Panthers entered the fourth trailing 50-36.

FOURTH QUARTER

The Panthers were able to get back within 11, 53-42, early in the fourth quarter as Harris netted a deep triple and Brown finished off a layup and free throw.
Pitt wasn't able to get any closer down the stretch as Clemson closed out the 71-53 victory.
The Tigers outscored Pitt 21-17 in the fourth quarter.

TEAM STATS

Pitt finished the game shooting just 30.6% from the floor while the Tigers shot 38.2% in the win. The Tigers knocked down 11 triples in the win.
Clemson outrebounded the Panthers 45-44 while also turning 17 offensive rebounds into 26 second chance points.
