Panthers Finish Third in Quad Meet
DURHAM, NH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (10-12, 2-4 EAGL) topped SCSU but fell to UNH, and Illinois State on Sunday afternoon at the Whittemore Center Arena.
The Panthers posted a season high team score on floor this afternoon with their 49.350 overall. Sidney Washington and Jordyn Ewing tied for the first-place title on floor – securing a 9.925. Sophomore Hallie Copperwheat earned the second-place title on bars with her score of 9.825.
BARS
Copperwheat started her journey in the all-around – earning a 9.825 on bars. Her routine earned her the second-place title overall. Freshman Natalia Pawlak was not far behind with her score of 9.800. Ewing earned a 9.750 for her routine. The Panthers finished the first rotation with a 48.700 overall.
BEAM
Continuing her route to the all-around, Copperwheat posted a 9.800 for her routine on beam. Freshman Reyna Garvey scored a 9.725. Kendall Foy matched her career-high score this afternoon – earning a 9.750. Pitt earned a 48.075 in the second rotation.
FLOOR
The Panthers posted a season-high score in the third rotation – scoring a 49.350 overall. Nay'yarrah Winder started the rotation off strong for Pitt – earning a career-high 9.875. Ewing and Washington tied for the first-place title with their score of 9.925. This was a career-high performance for Ewing. Senior Ciara Ward anchored the event – claiming a 9.850.
VAULT
Pitt finished their second highest team score of the afternoon – earning a 48.750 overall. Washington and Kennedy Duke started the event off strong – both earning a 9.800. Senior Christina Weiss scored a 9.725 for her performance. Jillian Zitcovich anchored the event for Pitt – posting a 9.750. Copperwheat completed the all-around – securing the third-place title with her 39.075 overall.
