Panthers Fall in ACC Opener to #2 Syracuse

PITTSBURGH - Pitt Lacrosse fell in their ACC and home opener Saturday afternoon at Highmark Stadium to #2 Syracuse by a score of 16-4.

Syracuse got off to a hot start in the first quarter of the contest and did not look back, scoring six goals apiece in the first two periods of action in Pittsburgh. Megan Carney (4 G) and Emma Tyrrell (3 G) paced the Orange offensively and eight total Syracuse players put one in the back of the net.

Sydney Naylor scored two goals while Emily Coughlin and Talia Zuco both scored a single goal. Goalie and Syracuse transfer Hannah Van Middelem made 13 saves and five different Panthers caused a turnover on the defensive end.

The Panthers only conceded four second half goals, but were still unable to gain significant momentum due to the Syracuse defense holding strong and only allowing two Pitt goals in the final thirty minutes.

Pitt plays their second home game in a row Tuesday, as Canisius comes to town. The game is set for 4 p.m. at Highmark Stadium. Admission is free for all fans.
