
Panthers Claim Three New School Records on Final Day of ACC Championships

Pitt Posts Highest Finish in Program History
GREENSBORO, NC – The University of Pittsburgh swimming and diving team completed the final day of the ACC Championship at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Saturday night. Pitt men posted their highest team finish in program history (7th) – rounding out with 660.5 points. The women's team finished in 11th-place overall with their team total of 315.
"This was an absolutely incredible week for our team and one of the most special meets I've been a part of in my coaching career," said head coach Chase Kreitler. "We had 17 Team Records Broken (21 if you count the 4 records broken twice at the meet), our Men's Team placed 7th (the highest team finish and point total in history) and the women's team has their first NCAA swimming qualifier in 5 years! This is just the start of the program we are building at Pitt! I am so proud of how the team came together this year, supported each other and committed to trust the process. Now we will continue to work hard to prepare for the NCAA Championships in March. H2P!!"
On the final day of competition, ten Panthers secured a spot in the finals with Cameron Cash finishing first overall in the men's preliminary platform diving event.
PRELIMINARIES
The Panthers started the final day of competition off strong – keeping the record-breaking streak going. Junior Marcin Goraj crushed the men's 200 back record with his time of 1:42.17 – securing a spot in the B Finals along with an NCAA B Cut. For the women's team, freshman Claire Jansen secured a spot in the C Finals with her time of 1:57.34.
Sophie Yendell claimed a spot in the C Finals with her best time of 49.43 in the 100 free. For the men's team, Dominic Toldeo posted a best time of 43.00 – securing a spot in the B Finals. Stepan Goncharov earned a spot in the C Finals with his time of 43.48. Both Toldeo and Goncharov earned an NCAA B Cut with their times.
In the men's 200 breast, seniors Cooper Van Der Laan and Jerry Chen both secured a spot in the A Finals with their times of 1:54.43 and 1:55.42, respectively. Flynn Crisci posted a best time of 1:55.65 – earning a spot in the B Finals. Van Der Laan, Chen, and Crisci all earned an NCAA B Cut for their performances. Junior Javier Zorzano dominated the swim off to secure his spot in the C Finals – posting a time of 1:59.20.
The Panthers continued their momentum into the men's platform competition earning major points for the men's team. Sophomore Cameron Cash dominated the competition, placing first overall in the preliminary round with his total of 353.85 – securing a spot in the A Finals. Dylan Reed placed tenth overall with his total of 307.50 – earning 17 points. Juan Osorio Mendoza (274.10) and Joshua Parquet (271.10) finished in 16th- and 17th-place – posting 20 more points for Pitt. Finishing the platform event, Jackson Salisbury (267.10) and Ethan Radio (256.50) earned 4 and 3 points, respecitively.
Pitt competed this morning's preliminary rounds with the men's and women's early-heat 1650 free. Jacqueline Tinneny finished in 18th- overall with her time of 16:39.38. Abby Licht was not far behind in 20th with her time of 16:48.83 - posting her best time.
FINALS
Freshman Jansen posted a best time in the 200 back finals – finishing 18th overall with her time of 1:56.06.
Goraj set the tone for the eveing - shattering his 200 back record he set this morning and finishing in tenth place overall. His time of 1:41.35 earned him an NCAA B Cut.
The Panthers broke yet another school record in the women's 100 free. Yendell's time of 49.07 not only crushed the record, but also secured her an NCAA B Cut.Yendell left the ACC Championships with her name on six school records.
Both Toledo and Goncharov posted a best time in the men's 100 free finals. Toledo finished in 15th with his time of 42.93 – securing an NCAA B Cut. Goncharov claimed 19th overall with his 43.22 finish.
In the men's 200 breast, Van Der Laan, Chen and Crisci secured an NCAA B Cut for their performances. Van Der Laan and Chen finished strong in the A Finals – taking 6th and 8th-place, respectively.
The momentum continued into the men's platform diving competition where Cash posted a 373.20 total. His performance tonight earned him fourth place overall - claiming 26 total points for the men's team.
The final night of competition finished strong with the only way the Panthers know how – breaking another record. The men's relay team of Goncharov, Toledo, Goraj, and Crisci shattered the school record (2:51.81) – finishing in 7th-place overall. The women's team of Fuhrmann, Yendell, Detwiler, and Jansen posted a strong performance – finishing in 9th overall with their time of 3:18.63.

The Pitt diving team will head to Morgantown, WV from March 6-8 to compete at the NCAA Zone Diving meet.
