PITTSBURGH – Three Panther swimmers and one Panther diver will be competing at the World Championships in Singapore this week.
Swimmers Max Matteazzi (Italy), Jayla Pina (Cape Verde) and Luka Carapovic (Croatia), along with diver Mariana Osorio Mendoza (Colombia), are representing the Panthers on the international stage.
Matteazzi recently won a gold medal in the men's 200 IM at Sette Colli in Rome, Italy a few weeks ago. He clinched his spot in Singapore this week with this performance.
Jayla Pina represents Cape Verde for one of the first times since her appearance in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games last summer. Pina swam in the women's 200 IM competition in Paris.
Incoming Panther swimmer, Luka Carapovic, will represent his home country of Croatia. In his most recent meet, Carapovic swam personal best times in five events, including dropping over three seconds in the 200 back.
Pitt's sole diving representative is Mariana Osorio Mendoza, diving on the behalf of Colombia. Osorio Medoza won a silver medal at the Pan American Games in early June for her country. Mariana has been an NCAA qualifier in each of her two seasons with Pitt's diving program.
The World Championships run from Saturday, July 26 – Sunday, August 3.
