VESTAL, N.Y. – The Panthers (1-1, 0-0 ACC) entered today's fourth quarter down one, but were unable to match Binghamton's (1-1, 0-0 AEC) final frame output and fell 11-5 at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
Pitt held Binghamton to only six goals through 45 minutes, but were unable to produce enough offensively in the same amount of time to build a lead before Binghamton outscored the Panthers 5-0 in the remaining 15 minutes.
O'Donnell once again led the Panthers offensively adding two goals to bring her season tally to five. The rest of the Pitt offense came from Maeve Murray (1 G), Emily Coughlin (1 G, 1 A), and Rachel Familetti (1 G).
Defensively, goalie Hannah Van Middelem kept the game close through three quarters thanks to her seven saves and work on the defensive end from Abby Thorne (1 CT), Natalie Voorhees (1 CT) and Brittney Villhauer (1 CT).
Binghamton opened the scoring less than two minutes in to the action Thursday afternoon with a goal from Kristen Scheidel off a nice feed from Kenna Newman. O'Donnell put her first of the day in the net for Pitt less than three minutes later unassisted. Shortly after, Madison Murphy scored the Bearcats' second thanks to another Newman assist. Murray scored her third of the season in the blue and gold from the free position to close the first quarter scoring tied at two.
The same pattern followed in the second and third quarters, with Binghamton scoring first and Pitt responding with a goal of their own. The Bearcats seemed to have the edge though, as they scored the final goal in the middle periods to take a 4-3 lead into the half and a 6-5 lead into the fourth.
Trailing by one, Pitt had opportunities to score in the last period, but were unable to find the net and Binghamton capitalized, scoring five additional unanswered goals.
Pitt continues their New York stay with a game against the Siena Saints in Loudonville, New York. First draw is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Hickey Field.
